About Studio-SB

Studio Philosophy

Studio SB is a one-person art and design practice based in Zug, Switzerland. My foundation is in classical painting, where I trained as a protégé under Federico Aguilar Alcuaz. That discipline shaped how I view composition, structure, and materials. Today, my work bridges classical artistic thinking with contemporary digital tools and meticulous traditional fabrication, refusing to be boxed into any single medium or category.

The studio focuses on mixed media compositions that blur the line between fine art and functional design. Rather than limiting my palette, I work with anything I can get my hands on that provides a creative spark. This fluid exploration stems from a childhood visit to a saddler’s workshop, where I first learned that objects should carry the presence of art while being made to be used, repaired, and lived with.

Craftsmanship & Juxtaposition

This work rejects rigid definitions, luxury labels, and passing trends. It is about creating tactile dialogues through unexpected material juxtapositions, turning everyday tools and visual art into shared spaces. Everything is carefully prototyped and produced in small series. While an underlying structural form may reappear during a design's evolution, material and media combinations are never repeated. Every object exists as its own individual composition—made once and never recreated.

The Material Philosophy

I approach my diverse toolkit with intention, including my use of leather. While I choose not to consume mammal meat, I work with leather because it exists as a byproduct of the food industry. Rather than letting it become waste, I transform it into elements designed to last for decades. Integrating leather into mixed media works honors the material through longevity, keeping it in use far longer than synthetic alternatives. If a material exists, it should be used thoughtfully and well.

Future Horizons

No practice is static. I am actively exploring innovative, plant-based alternative mediums that align with my values of durability, craftsmanship, and safety—such as being safe for laser cutting. While experiments with materials like cork have not yet fully met studio standards, I remain committed to testing new developments to continuously expand the horizons of my mixed media art.
