The Geometric Bag

A structured leather bag inspired by a 1960s silhouette and rebuilt with modern materials.

Origin

The shape of this bag is loosely based on a purse my grandmother carried in the mid-1960s.

A trapezoidal top-handle bag: compact, structured, and very typical of the period.

The Geometric Bag borrows that geometry as a starting point, but it is not a reproduction.

The original idea was rebuilt using materials and construction methods intended to last much longer than most vintage bags did.

Construction

The bag is made from thick vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy.

This type of leather begins firm and gradually softens with use, developing a darker patina where it is handled most.

The structure is assembled using traditional saddle stitching.

Each stitch is placed by hand.

The closure comes from a different field entirely: a marine lock normally used in sailing equipment.

It is precise, secure, and slightly unexpected on a bag of this shape.

Old form. Industrial materials. Modern hardware.

Colour

The inner colour is intentionally visible along the edges, allowing a glimpse of brightness within the otherwise classic form.

Material

Leather is a natural material.

It carries small scars, wrinkles, and variations that are part of the hide.

These marks are not removed.

They are part of the surface and make each piece slightly different.

With time the leather softens, darkens, and develops a patina that reflects the life of the person who carries it.

Philosophy

No logos are added to this piece.

The leather surface is left untouched so the material, construction, and form remain the focus.

Objects like this do not need to compete for attention.

They simply become part of everyday life.

Materials & Construction

The outer shell is made from Tempesti "Maine Liscio" vegetable tanned leather in Avocado.

The lining is cut from a chrome-tanned calf double butt in Fuchsia.

A 16 mm D-ring in solid brass with fine gold plating supports the strap.

The closure is a solid brass LOXX lock, developed for marine equipment.

The pocket flap is hand-dyed kangaroo leather and secured with solid brass glove snaps.

The body and lining are entirely hand stitched using Au Chinois 432 linen thread in Vert.

The strap is machine-stitched on an Adler 267 using Coats Gral size 30 thread.

It can be replaced easily by unscrewing the D-ring.

Each bag is made entirely in my studio in the canton of Zug, Switzerland.
